New York State of Mind

I feel like every time I go to the big apple, I have to play “New York New York” by Frank Sinatra on the cab ride from the airport. Long weekends in NYC have become a tradition for me ( and will continue as long as the hubs is with the Yankees).  This past weekend I took advantage of another long weekend in the city.  Below are some of my recommendations based on this past weekends adventures.

Good Eats

Bubby’s – This place was delicious. I can honestly say I will dream about their buttermilk pancakes. The portions are huge.  Recommendations: Buttermilk Pancakes & Fried Chicken and Pancakes. (Basically all the pancakes).  I went to the location on Hudson and it was amazing.

Grand Banks-  This is an oyster bar aboard a historic wooden schooner.  This place is seasonal (obvi, you wouldn’t want to go in the winter).  I had the lobster roll and a glass of rose.  I thoroughly enjoyed the view and the staff were so sweet.

City Vineyard at Pier 26 –  Loved this spot. I went for lunch and was not disappointed. They have rose on tap and one of the best caesar salads I’ve had.  You can enjoy eating on the patio or inside the restaurant. If you want to stop by after 2 PM their rooftop deck opens, with some amazing views of the city.

Catch NYC – I LOVED EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS PLACE.  This was by far my favorite dinner spot. Located in the Meat Packing District you can eat inside or up on the roof.  The service was amazing and the food was unreal.   Recommendations: Crispy Shrimp, Sushi (any rolls), Scallop Gnocchi, Lobster Mac & Cheese and S’Mores Pizza.

Vandal –  Another good spot for dinner and drinks.  This menu is set up to share small plates.  I got the scallops (seemed to be a theme I was following).  The dumplings are amazing as were the buns.

In addition to eating my way through the city, I also took the Staten Island Ferry to catch a Staten Island Yankees game (beautiful view of the city from the ballpark).  I was also convinced to hop the LIRR to Citi Field to watch the Mets play.  I didn’t really watch the game, but the ballpark was beautiful and they had a Shake Shack so obviously I got a burger.

If baseball games aren’t “your thing” I suggest you head over to the west village for some amazing shopping.  I actually got to watch a lady hand paint a Louis Vuitton bag in the store (talk about no pressure).  There are blocks of amazing shops and good spots to eat in this neighborhood.

I love to try new places every time I go to the city, (excluding City Vineyard & Grand Banks – I’ve been before) but I can say Catch and Bubby’s will be thrown into the mix moving forward.  As always if you have any questions or need more recommendations don’t hesitate to send me an email.

Happy Traveling!
