Earlier this year I was lucky enough to meet Kelly Vann Calaway on a shoot for Loy Harn Jewelers {in Charleston, South Carolina}. Kelly has been a professional photographer for 10 years and she is based out of Charleston, South Carolina. To start, I was nervous to do this photo-shoot, as it was outside my comfort zone of iPhone selfies. But all of my anxiety went away when Kelly started shooting. Kelly has the unique ability to make you feel extremely comfortable. I felt like I had known her for years. She is not only an amazing photographer, but she is now one of my friends.
Fast forward to Fuller Family vacation 2018 out at Wild Dunes. Let me start with no one likes having their picture taken; and people dread family photos especially when they have toddlers. I wanted to have a few pictures to document the trip and possibly get some good shots for a Christmas card. Without any hesitation I gave Kelly a call to see if she had any availability and luckily she did! It wouldn’t be a family vacation without some crazy things not going according to plan and of course we had to call some audibles. Mike’s plan got rerouted and he had to rent a car and drive from Columbia the night before pictures. I was {obviously} panicking not only because Mike wasn’t there, but because we were supposed to have pictures the next morning and he didn’t have his luggage. Frantically, I texted Kelly at 10 PM and she immediately wrote back saying not to worry, we would just choose another day. Talk about flexible and amazing. The next morning we went and picked up Mike’s luggage from the airport and enjoyed an awesome beach day and tried to get a last minute tan before family pictures.
The day of family pictures arrived and Kelly came out to our house and even brought us all gifts from a local business (who does that- so sweet). Prior to doing our family photos, Kelly and I went around Wild Dunes getting some shots I needed for a blog post, allowing everyone else to get ready. As most of you with kids know, every day is a wild card. My four year old niece wanted to wear a different dress, so she was not very excited about pictures. Kelly was very patient and even got a lot of candids of everyone to make sure we had a lot of pictures of the girls.
