Winter Skin is [not] Always Bad!

I want to start off by saying, I was unaware of what “winter skin” was until we moved to the coldest place on Earth. Having lived on the coast for the last 12 years – I was quite used to the humid climate which equals [in my case] naturally dewy skin. Living in Edmonton – there is absolutely no “natural dew” to be found. Winter here is cold + dry. It has taken me almost 11 months to perfect my “Cold Canada Weather Skincare” and with the help of some very talented ladies I have what works for me – and keeps my face from cracking and peeling off. {Please note I consider myself to have dry skin – Jordan Harper has a skin quiz that can help you identify your skin type linked here}

What I use in the AM and the order I use it in:

Facewash: Image Skincare’s VITAL C Hydrating Facial Cleanser. Yes, I wash my face in the morning – I feel better when I start the day with a clean face. I love this cleanser because it takes off residue without stripping my skin of moisture.

Barefaced Toning Pads: I swear by these. Y’all, wearing masks everyday has killed the skin around my mouth toning pads just make everything better. You can shop them here.

Vitamin C: Obagi 15% Professional – C Serum. I love this Vit C and it is the only one I will buy. It helps brightening any hyperpigmentation while providing antioxidant protection from UV damage. And last but not least it uses Hyaluronic acid to keep the moisture in my skin preventing dryness. You can shop it here.

Eye Cream: ELASTIderm Eye cream by Obagi. My eye area is super sensitive. I used to use La Mer eye cream but they changed their formula and it started breaking my eyes out. This eye cream keeps my undereye hydrated while it helps to firm the skin. I love it! You can shop it here.

Face Cream: Shocker – I use Barefaced Collections Hydrating Lotion. I love it because it isn’t super heavy and it doesn’t make me break out. There are a list of things it actually does on the website so feel free to check it out here.

Sunscreen: Barefaced Tinted Protection SPF 50+ is my day to day. It has a light tint that you can wear instead of a BB cream. During the summer – I wear this instead of foundation. SPF is so important and you can shop this one here.

What I use in the PM and the order I use it in:

Facewash: See above! I use the same facewash at night – it does a great job of taking off makeup as well.

Toning Pads: Yep, you guessed it – same as the AM toning pads.

Eye Cream: Same as AM

Retinaldehyde: This is my alternative to using a retinol. I use RETIVANCE by Obagi. This stuff doesn’t dry you out and you can even put it under your eyes. You can shop it here.

Night Cream: Obagi Medicals Hydrate Luxe Cream. I love this cream – it doesn’t cause me to break out and my face still feels hydrated when I wake up. You can shop it here.

EXTRAS:

Professional C Microderm Mask by Obagi – I use this once a week. It helps with reducing the appearance of fine lines and sun damage. You can shop it here.

YouthFull Lip Replenisher by Revision – I use this every single night. Keeps my lips from getting chapped and awful in this dry weather. You can shop it here.

Counter+ Charcoal Facial Mask by BeautyCounter – I have been using this because of ‘mascne’ and I love it. Once a week for ten minutes is all you need. You can shop it here.

Well folks, the winter skincare post was a long time coming. I am not a dermatologist or a medical professional, I am only providing information on what I personally use for skincare for my dry skin. Don’t hesitate to let me know if you have any questions.

Happy Shopping!
